What in your opinion is the best/easiest breed of dog to care for, for a first time dog owner?
I have lived with dogs before, just never owned one by myself. This will be my first dog and i have done lots of tests on the internet, ive asked dog owners, bought books but i still cant find the best breed for me ??
i am looking for:
-a companion first, and is a dog that wants to please its owner (ie a dog thats easy to train)
-i dont want a tiny dog, but i would like either a small-medium or medium-large.
-I would like a dog that would be able to watch the home (i dont want a guard dog, just a dog that would alert me of a stranger entering the property)
- This is a must, i need a dog that would be ok with cats, and doesnt need hours of exercise. just a walk a day.

p.s i would like a fairly common dog because i thought i had found the best dog for me, and i couldnt find this breed anywhere (german pinscer) so a dog that is well known would be great too!
