What is a house hold item you can use as training treats for your dog?
I’m training my siberian husky and its been working pretty good so far he knows how to sit but im trying to improve a lot of the commands especially “come here” that ones pretty tricky unless i have treats….anyways ive been using hot dogs cut up into small peices i think they where responsible for his gas haha.
But I’m curious of some other house hold foods i could feed him for a reward treat???
and also if you know of any dog treat recipes or sites i would love to get the recipee or link thanks-Brant
Carrots, fresh or frozen, doglog, ice cubes, frozen peas, apple slices, hot dogs cut in slices like you said, then microwave on a paper towel (makes them dryer, not as greasy, and chewier), any unsweetened cereal, small slices of string cheese, fresh greenbeans, raw potatoes. Some of my dogs have liked broccoli, watermelon, and the white bottom stem of lettuce leaves, but some wouldn’t touch veggies. Depends on the dog, find what your dog likes best.
One of my dogs is in training to be a therapy dog, and the trainer said use one treat for most things, and a different treat (their very favorite treat) ONLY for the “come” command. That way they are more certain to come every time, and saves them from dangerous situations like running away into the street or going where they shouldn’t. That’s helped ALOT!
