How do dog trainers get jobs at Petco & Petsmart?
My neighbor who is a crack addicted alcoholic worked as a dog trainer at Petco. I was just wondering how they allow clueless high school drop outs get jobs to train dogs. He has a sweet male pit bull mix named Tigger and I saw him kicking Tigger in his driveway one morning. I know he didn’t think anyone saw him. The neighbor is currently serving time in jail for burning his rental mobile home down next door. Just wondering if they take any derelict off the street & Give them jobs as a dog trainer.
If someone wants to be a trainer, then they approach management, sit through a few weeks of learning how to bribe dogs with treats and use a clicker reasonably well, take a formal test, et voila! They’re a “certified” dog trainer.
It’s all book work and no real hands-on work. I’ve seen some good trainers at PetSmart and I’ve seen very mediocre ones. It’s a shame, because there should be higher standards.
