Question about dog training?
Ok so i have a shiba inu puppy male and im having trouble training him. They say they are spitz dogs and i know they are difficult to train this summer i will be putting him in obedience classes but before then i really want to teach him basic commands. When i got him within the first month i taught him sit and lie down and to walk on a leash, I was thinking this will be easy then it was like BAM a brick wall now i cant teach him anything but he still does what he was taught before on command have any tips to training my puppy.
Yes Spitz dogs are harder to train but not at all a lost cause. I have raised west highland white terriers and beagles and both of those breeds are hard to train. But I have and they are very good dogs. I would recommend getting him into an obedience class now. Most will except puppies as young as 10 weeks old. Dogs go through a critical socialization period from 6 weeks to about 16-18 weeks. If your dog is older than this you are already behind. Once a dog hits about 6 months they start a rebellious stage. Commands are harder to teach, your dog becomes unreliable and likes to explore away from home. Imagine some of the behaviors that a human teenager will show and you can get an idea of what your dog will do. This is a necessary and normal part of life and you just have to be more stubborn than your dog. He will constantly test you to see what he can get away with.
