Bernese Mountain Dog

Bernese Mountain Dog or similar breed?

I have been wanting to get a dog for a while and have been interested in Bernese Mountain Dogs, but their life span is so short. I have also considered Austrailian Shepherds but because of their usually strong herding instincts they can be a problem sometimes when around horses and small children. Is there a breed similar in personality to a Berner that would be able to suit what I want? I want something that could be happy living in a house or on a farm, something that will stay with me when let off the leash, something that is not agressive and will be friendly to pretty much everyone, something fairly easy to train and preferably a medium or large breed dog- no small terriers, toys or minis.

consider a Great Pyrenees aka Pyrenean Mountain dog…research the breed and be AMAZED…they are sheepdogs, and are very good family pets, great watchdogs, good with children, and easily trained…they are large, yet have a low metabolism, so they dont eat like a st. bernard would….they live 10-12 yrs or more, if well cared for…check it out…i have owned one, my step-son has one, and i now own a Great Pyrenees MIX rescue dog…check petfinder.com to see some great dogs….just enter your Zip code, enter breed wanted, and be AMAZED at how many GREAT choices you have !!…good luck to y’all !! if you have more questions on Great Pyrenees, email me !!
